Things to Watch in Week 3

I found a post today on the forum by curlygirl Amy that really came at the right time. I know that I've been guilty of relaxing a little too much, and not measuring accurately. I also eat red meat and have been drinking far too many shakes of late. But by far the worst thing, I think for me at least, has been the artificial sugars in such things as Da Vinci SF syrup. I really think they are keeping me out of ketosis, and increasing my hunger even if just a little.

  1. Keep a food journal e.g fitday and make it public!
  2. Are you adding extras like low carb tortillas, calorie countdown milk, etc. that are not on the list! KISS
  3. Eating too much cheese? (for best loss - skip the cheese!)
  4. Have you eaten beef recently? (it tends to hang around in your gut longer) Stick with fish & chicken.
  5. Have you eaten ham recently? (can be salty - may cause water retention)
  6. Are you using shakes as snacks instead of as meal replacements?
  7. Do you have carb creep? (people tend to be stricter in the beginning and then get more lax so tighten up your menu)
  8. Are you eating lots of processed foods? (they are saltier than food you make yourself - keep it real!)
  9. Are you eating too many little extras (SF Jellos, yogurts, etc.)? They are on the list but if you eat ALL of them every day, your weight loss probably will slow down!
  10. How are your portion sizes? Are you eating big portions because you truly are that hungry or just because that's what you are used to eating? Start weighing your food.

You've made it this far so the plan is probably working well for you. Now is the time to be tightening up your menu and cutting out all the little extras.

Another pound gone!!!

Just a quick post to say I stepped on the scale this morning and was delighted to see 186.5 lbs! That's another pound gone. I was a little hesitant to weigh myself because I knew I was still bloated from TOM. But whoo hooo!!!

Are You Drinking Enough Water?

For all of us who might not drink the amount of water/liquid that our bodies need - here's something to think about:

Another Reason for a Stall is Not Drinking Enough Water. Adipose tissue, ie. fat, is mobilized through a process called hydrolysis. As the word suggests, hydrolysis requires plenty of water. Insufficient amounts of water in your body will hinder effective breakdown of fat. If you're exercising, or if your environment is warm and/or dry, you need to drink more water. If you are in active ketosis, you need to drink more water to flush the ketones out of your system. How much is enough? A bare minimum recommendation is 64 fluid oz (that's 8 - 8 oz glasses) of water a day. Some experts suggest you should divide your current weight in pounds by 2; this number is how many ounces you should drink each day, but no less than 64 oz.

There is no disagreement on the need to drink sufficient amounts of fluids every day, but there are some arguments that it's not necessary to drink only plain water. If you choose to not drink large volumes of water, you should ensure that you are consuming adequate fluid in the form of calorie and carb-free liquids. Note that coffee is neither calorie nor carb free. Three small 6 oz cups of coffee yield 12 calories and 2.4 carb grams. Add in the cream and packets of sweetener .........hmmm. Teas and herbal teas are generally close to zero carb, as well as diet sodas and mineral waters. Be careful that some diet sodas contain citric acid as a flavouring, as this has been known to stall some folks. It's best to strive to drink as much plain water as possible; at least half of your day's intake, more if possible.

Don't eat if you aren't hungry

Kimmer's most basic advice is very simple: Don't eat if you aren't hungry. She says that the “3 meals a day” that we think is “the normal way to eat” was originally designed for convenience for our hard working ancestors who labored in fields to grow and harvest food. Few of us are toiling in the fields any longer - hence our ever expanding girth. If you're not hungry for breakfast, don't eat it. You don't have to eat 3 meals per day.

But if I don’t eat every 3-4 hours, won’t my body think I am starving it, and go into Starvation Mode? I've heard that if we do not eat enough, our metabolism slows down and we won't lose weight. Will this damage my metabolism?

(The following is taken from a great answer to the above question posted on the Kimkins forum by littlebit)

We hear a lot about 'starvation mode', but it turns out to be more myth than fact. It is one of those things that 'everybody knows' that just isn’t necessarily so! (After all, if the standard weight loss 'wisdom' is so true, why are 2/3's of Americans who believe it overweight, with 1/3 clinically obese? With the risk of debilitating disease and early death from obesity so great, what is so BAD about cutting calories for a while to regain our lives, looks, and good health?)

Anyway, YES, on a standard low-calorie diet, when we cut calories, the body eventually compensates by 'dialing down' the metabolism to use fewer calories. This is because the body greatly prefers to keep things the same, to maintain stasis, to take the easiest possible path. Yet, people do still lose weight on standard low-calorie diets --- just more slowly, and with more effort. However the 'dialing down' of the metabolism is not permanent, because the metabolism is a dynamic thing. It adjusts to circumstances. If it can adjust down, it can adjust back UP, too. In fact, it adjusts down a little every night when we sleep, and adjust back up in the morning again, once we get up and get going with our day. It doesn't 'break' --- it just resets.

Now comes the good part: With Kimkins we do not experience that same 'dialing down' of the metabolism! Why not? It is because we do not really operate on the same type of calorie deficit! Once we enter into deep ketosis, our bodies tap into a huge reservoir of available fuel - our stored body fat! At that point, the easiest thing for our bodies to do to maintain stasis is just to flip the switch from carb fuel to body-fat fuel, and to keep right on humming along at peak efficiency! We aren't EATING all the calories we 'need', but our body has all it wants, continually! It is NOT starving --- it is feasting!!

Think of a typical low-calorie diet as going out and gathering sticks to heat your house. Tiring, slow, and not too hot! Think of a typical low-carb diet as shoveling coal into your furnace. Easier, faster, and more efficient! NOW, think of Kimkins as having an oil well in your own backyard, pumping fuel into your furnace continually. Strong, sure, and steady, as long as you keep that well pumping!

I love it!

Gratitude

I've really been experiencing magical results as I continue to work with "The Secret" over the past two days. Two things that at face value seemed impossible and unlikely to occur actually happened. The first thing happened yesterday and I was still reeling from shock and amusement at how everything worked when I just sat back and let it go at it's own pace. I just gave all my fears over to the universe and believed that I had already received, and that I was just waiting for it to be manifested. And it came about so magically, I was so happy! And then today I received a large check reimbursing me for something that I thought I'd have to pay out of my own pocket. I had tears of gratitude running down my face as I realised that I had made all of what happened occur myself. I called both those circumstances into belief.

I haven't had a chance to weigh myself because I've just been so busy. Yesterday started early when I drove DH to the train station airport at 4:30am, and didn't end until 2am this morning when DH & his boys finally arrived home. Today was spent running around, but I stayed on plan and I am hoping to see a major change when I weigh myself tomorrow (but since TOM is close I will be happy to see the same weight on my scales!). I think the biggest reward for me will come as soon as DH notices that I'm shrinking before his eyes. I've not told him yet about diet so much as just to say I'm watching what I eat. I want any comments he makes to be genuine not because he feels obligated to say something.

I also haven't told my girlfriend who I see several times each week, and who would also benefit from Kimkins. Why is that? Because I am scared that she'll try to undermine my efforts and point out all the things that she (or her personal trainer DH) would think is wrong with Kimkins. I want to have results first. One cannot argue with results. And while it's amazingly encouraging to see magazine articles with someone losing 200lbs in 11 months, it is far more believeable when you see someone shrinking right before your eyes - and you just have to ask her why. What better testimony to Kimkins working but RESULTS!

While I've currently lost 17.5 lbs, I am still wearing the same clothes and to be honest the loss is not very noticeable yet. I feel slimmer. I feel lighter. I can be patient though. Those stretch jeans are going to look so hot on my size 2 ass!

Crabcake Recipes

I found some lump crabmeat on sale today and decided to make crabcakes. I ended up making a very basic crabcake with egg & seasonings, but here are some other Kimkins friendly recipes using lump crabmeat.

#1 Crabcakes (from a George Stella cookbook)

1 pound crabmeat
1 T finely diced red bell pepper
1 T finely diced green bell pepper
1 T finely chopped fresh parsley
1 T mayonnaise
2 large eggs
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1 T baking powder
1.5 tsp Old Bay seasoning
2 T Canola oil

In a large bowl, mix all ingredients except oil.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully spoon the batter in rounded tablespoons into pan. Cook on one side until firm, about 2 minutes then flip and cook other side one minutes more. Continue in batches until batter is used up.

Makes 18 cakes

1 cake = 55 caloreies, 3 fat, .5 carb, 6 pro

You could probably use low fat mayo just fine, though it could make the carb count higher even though it would cut the fat down, but I'm not sure how successful you'd be trying to cook it without the oil. Definitely want to use a non-stick skillet.

#2 Crabmeat Omelet

3 eggs
1/4 t. salt
pinch freshly ground white pepper
1 1/2 T. unsalted butter, divided
2 ounces flaked crabmeat
1/4 t. grated lemon zest

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, salt, and pepper until frothy.

Melt 1/2 T. of the butter in a small nonstick saute pan over low heat. Add the crabmeat and cook until just heated through. Stir in the lemon zest. Cover to warm and set aside.

Melt the remaining butter in another small nonstick suate pan over medium heat. Add the eggs. As they begin to set, use a spatula to carefully lift the edges and gently push them toward the center, tilting the pan slightly to allow the liquid egg on top to flow underneath. Continue to cook the eggs until they are almost set.

Sprinkle the crabmeat over half of the omelet. When sliding the omelet out of the pan, start with the crab-covered side toward the plate. When the omelet is halfway out, flip the pan over to fold the omelet in half.

Super easy to make! I use less butter than called for & I sprinkle a little bit of mozzarella cheese inside or on top.

1 serving, 1.9 g carb, 24.8 g protein

#3 Broiled Crab Cakes recipe

Yield: 6 servings

1 1/2 pounds crab meat, backfin, cartilage and shells removed
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons minced onion
1 egg

Combine all ingredients and shape into 6 patties. Broil 6 inches from heat source, 3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Serve immediately.

Makes 6 servings of 3 ounces each.

Per Serving: 178 Cal (33% from Fat, 62% from Protein, 5% from Carb); 27 g Protein; 6 g Tot Fat; 2 g Carb; 0 g Fiber; 77 mg Calcium; 1 mg Iron; 540 mg Sodium; 124 mg Cholesterol

The Law of Attraction

I found the following on the Kimkins forum yesterday. I cannot recall where it was or who posted it, but it really made me catch my breath.

Focus on how you want to feel when you reach your goal. Break it up into little goals & focus on how you will feel when you reach that small personal victory. Then lavish yourself with a reward such as a massage or a pedicure or a walk in nature with a great friend. When you focus on the essence of what it is you are trying to create you send out a message to the Universe that you are grateful for all that you have & you start to draw more success to you. It is called the law of attraction. What you focus on grows. So, choose to focus on everything that is working in your life at this very moment & give thanks for it. Keep a gratitude journal each day write about 5 things you are grateful for. You will start to see huge improvements in your life.

All I've been thinking about for the past three days is my weight not moving, and so the universe gave me exactly what I was focused on. I am going to work on shifting my focus to the BIG PICTURE. I am getting healthier. My clothes are feeling loser. The towel almost fully wraps around me after my shower.

And the scale moved down 1/2 pound this morning!

It’s just not fair!

Today is my second day where the number on my bathroom scales has remained the same. There’s a part of me very pleased that it has not increased but I am also very disappointed to not see a loss. OK I’ll be honest: I am more than just very disappointed, I am frantic. I am still keeping my carbs low despite noticing that I am hungrier than I was this time last week.

Women around the world understand exactly what I am dealing with, because each of us suffers from annoying “bloating” on a monthly basis. I remember reading about the underlying hormonal reasoning for this water weight gain somewhere, that the drop in progesterone that naturally occurs the week before menstruation can make your body retain water. It’s just not fair!

British physician Katharina Dalton, who has researched PMS for 45 years, has suggested that the problem is related to the fact that when women have PMS, their blood sugar levels may fluctuate abnormally--which indirectly leads to bloating. (This makes sense to me because even on Kimkins I’ve noticed my appetite has returned and I am hungrier this week!) In her book, Once a Month, Dr. Dalton says that when a person doesn't eat for many hours, blood sugar gets very low. This causes the body to release adrenaline, which signals the body to let go of some of its stored sugar from cells in order to balance out the blood sugar. When sugar is taken from the cells, they fill up with water, and this is what causes the bloating, weight gain and water retention symptoms in those with PMS. In women with PMS, the body reaches the point when it will release adrenaline a lot sooner than it does in other women, Dr. Dalton notes. (So does that mean I should see a “Whoosh” as soon as my period is done?? Now that would make all of this worth it.)

Other experts see a sodium link. When your blood breaks down progesterone--as it does a week before your period--your kidneys are prompted to retain both water and sodium. At the same time, a powerful water-retaining substance called anti-diuretic hormone may also be released, further influencing your body to hold onto fluids. (So basically just before my period starts the delicate balance of sodium & potassium and of course water gets messed up, so my body wants to hold onto as much water as it can, or so it seems! Again, that's just fine and dandy - as long as the minute my period starts I better lose all that excess water, or else!)

Maybe I need to consider using a diuretic to rid myself of this extra water weight? Reading about over-the-counter diuretics I've discovered that while they seem that they might temporarily alleviate the bloat, they could in turn cause more water retention because they may also drain potassium from your system and cause some side effects like weakness, confusion, heart palpitations and increased blood sugar levels. A more natural diuretic is adding a little lemon juice to a glass of water. No side effects from that. Just a few carbs so I think I’ll stick with the lemon juice.

Speaking of weight fluctuations – a topic so widely discussed on our Kimkins forum and many other weightloss forums in general, not just low-carb. Maybe having a daily weigh-in is not always a good idea. Your weight can fluctuate by a few pounds from one day to the next. The adult body is about 60% water, so small changes in water balance can easily alter body weight. What you eat can also influence how much water your body keeps. If you eat a very salty meal, your body will retain extra water for 1 or 2 days to keep your body fluids from being too salty. Afterwards, your body will get rid of both the extra salt and water through your urine. Instead of weighing, you can rely on how you feel and how your clothes fit.

But to be honest we are all going to keep weighing ourselves daily, aren’t we? I know I probably will. I just need to step back and appreciate the intricate processes going on within my body, and allow my body to catch up with my weightloss so far.

Why does being overweight make us wait?

Something that I've been meaning to do for years, but used my weight as an excuse not to do anything at all, is to get certified as a personal trainer. OK yes I'm sure you see my reasoning why. I mean who'd go to a personal trainer who was 100 lbs overwight. Indeed! But I have the books and everything. I am just sitting here making excuses. It's not that I'm not interested. I'm capable of studying. I can find the time if I really try, and I know I'll benefit from what I learn myself ... but ...

Ultimately my dream is to specialize in exercise for special needs teenagers/children because there is nothing for these children to do when they reach this age. They are taught to eat convience foods rather than how to prepare a nutritious meal. And there is little emphasis on getting exercise. I have really been thinking about this more and more this past week. I need to get motivated. And stop making excuses.

Are we all the same, putting off things "until the weight drops off" or "until I look better in a bikini"??? - what are we putting off, and why? I know this post is sounding very Carrie Bradshaw, but "Why does being overweight make us wait?"

My Virtual Model

I was playing around in PaintShop today, and I came up with this great visual from my virtual model. It is really exciting to be able to see the differences between where I was, and where I am now. And of course, better still, where I am going!

Another 1/2 pound closer to my Mini Goal

I was very surprised to see another 1/2 pound drop on the scales this morning. Taking my total to 17 lbs lost at the start of day# 12 (today). I was feeling a little munchy right before bed last night (wanna bet if that's not TOM about to start!?!) so I nibbled on a cold cooked hamburger patty and drank 2 large glasses of water. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if I'd gained a little or stayed the same. So there I was naked, doing a happy dance in my bathroom - OK so NOT a good image right now ! LOL

I know I'd be extremely happy if I could lose 1/2 pound each and every day. But obviously 1 pound per day would be nicer. I am kind of thinking that by doing Kimkins I am getting a little spoilt. I mean there are other weightloss programs out there where people get excited to lose 1/2 pound per week. And that's with a huge amount of exercise.

Just in case you are wondering, I am not currently "exercising" - at least not in a formal way. But I am running around daily after my two special needs children, as well as spring cleaning my house because of impending visitors. I have decided that I am going to lose more weight (maybe down to 140-150), then incorporate a little cardio (kickboxing) and lots of muscle building weight lifting (follow a Joyce Vedral program - I like her, she's a shorty like me) into my daily routine. I am hoping I'll avoid too much lose saggy baggy elephant skin, especially around the bits that will show when I wear a bikini next summer!

Bring It On!

Don't Make This Diet Difficult

Like Kimmer says - DON'T MAKE THIS DIET DIFFICULT. There is plenty to eat, and to those that complain about getting bored eating the same thing everyday - you don't have to, if you don't want to. (I swear before Kimkins I pretty much ate the same things all the time anyway - and where did that get me? Heavier and heavier, unhappy, lethargic & sick!)

Get a pen a paper and write down (from the foods list) what you can eat that is on plan. Think up 7 different breakfast, 7 lunches & 7 dinners. Then you can mix and match. Forget about what I eat or what anyone else eats - this is about YOU. I have different tastes to you. This has to be about what works for you. Also while you are jotting down ideas - think of grab & go foods - like canned/foil packet salmon, tuna, shrimp, or crab; hard boiled eggs etc.

Then go shopping: Find a low carb shake mix. I use Jay Robb Egg White Protein Powder (www.jayrobb.com), others use EAS or Designer Whey. Get some stevia or splenda packets to sweeten things. Get some spices. Buy some eggs, or eggbeaters. You can buy already peeled eggs these days. Buy some chicken tenders, some white fish like tilapia, some low fat ground beef (or better yet ground bison). Buy some green veges like spinach, broccoli, peppers, cauliflower etc. (unless you are doing K/E)

Stop making excuses about not knowing what to eat. There is no magic menu. No secret handshake. We can all do this!

Look How Much I've Lost!

I started Kimkins 10 days ago, and I've been amazed at my lack of hunger, my energy levels and most importantly, my weightloss! I am only 5'1" tall, so carrying 100+ pounds extra on my frame looks more like way more weight than that.

Here are my stats:

Start Weight: 205 lb
Start Date: June 9, 2007

Current Weight Today: 189.5 lbs!!!

That's a loss of 15.5 lbs in 10 days.

Welcome to the 80s. Yay me!

I weighed in this morning and was pleased to see another pound gone since Saturday. The scale now prodly says: 189.5 lbs. Welcome to the 80s. Yay me!

Stayed up a bit later than I really wanted to last night watching Deja Vu. If you've not seen it yet, it's a very good movie. Lots of twists and it really makes you think about time & space. Of course Denzel is hot and you do get to see his abs & pecs in one scene, I was more impressed by the story line.

Denzel Washington plays Agent Carlin, a sharp, valiant AFT agent who is so extraordinary talented, that he can analyze a crime scene with little more than a glance or quick walk-through. These talents come in handy when a ferry, full of innocent people suddenly explodes near New Orleans. The terrorist who sent the 500+ people to their fiery deaths filled up an SUV with explosives and all of the evidence seems to have been blown sky high. That is, until Carlin checks his voice mail and discovers a phonecall that took place shortly before the explosion. The phonecall would be of little consequence if not for the fact that the young woman who made the phonecall washed up on shore dead, but was not a victim of the explosion. A little ingenius reasoning in typical Denzel fashion comes to the conclusion that the killer of this young woman is also the terrorist. But there isn't enough evidence to find this man/woman. Impressed by Carlin's skills, he is recruited into an elite group of investigators bent on finding the mysterious terrorist before he permanently escapes or strikes again. Carlin finds out that the investigators have a set up of high tech imaging equipment that might just get a glimpse of the young woman who washed up dead, or, better yet, her killer. But something happens, the plot takes several twists and Carlin starts to experience a little Deja Vu as he visits the key sites of the investigation. He begins to fall in love with the images of the woman who was murdered and starts to doubt the imaging equipment is really what they say it is. You might just think that Carlin is the terrorist, with his odd recollection of the crime scene, and you may or may not be right. Perhaps there is a conspiracy that strikes at the very heart of America, or perhaps it is something else entirely. What is certain, is that the evil is efficient and frightening and might be deeper and darker than a single warped mind.
For a few moments, I thought the the investigation began to question the very essence of time and space and thought I had it all figured out. I was wrong. The acting is superb, the plot twists keep the viewer glued to the seat, and there is sporadic action that is always well done. For those who like suspense, don't miss this one. The actors are well selected for their roles, the cinematography conveys an action filled and mysterious environment to near perfection, and the dialogue is neither excessive nor insufficient. The movie is well balanced and well put together for a nail biting Saturday night. The ending has a prophetic message. Like many unusual endings, there are some who may leave unsatisfied. They prefer the predictable, stereotype image that we have grown accustomed to. I say, plot twists and suprises are welcome, after all, this is a thriller.

Being Sneaky?

DH arrived home for the weekend yesterday. I felt kinda sneaky just eating chicken for my dinner. I served myself some veges too, but tossed them away. Corn & carrots & peas. Nice carb-y veges. Not even what I wanted to see. He didn't comment on my weightloss, which was ok. It's not really that visible yet so I am not going to tell him - just wait until he notices something. He adores the egg muffins, especially the ones with tomato in them. I am going to have to experiment with making these. I think the tomato would look nice on the bottom rather than mixed in also.I also didn't get opportunity to weigh myself first thing, but that's ok. I can wait until tomorrow. Hope everyone is enjoying Father's Day.

Carbaholic?

You are not a carbaholic. You like carbs, but you can survive without them. How you talk to yourself or about yourself is so important.

Start by saying aloud: I like carbs but I am giving my body a break from carbs for a while. I am going to feed my body the protein it needs in order to get healthy.

Honestly it will not take very long begore you stop focusing on carbs.

YOU CAN DO THIS! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Not Eggs Again for Breakfast

For breakfast - there are no rules that say one has to eat eggs everyday now is there? You can have Protein Shakes, Cold meat, Chicken, Fish, Beef... I have to admit eggs everyday does get boring. So I have a protein shake, and today I had some Boars Head Oven Roasted Chicken Breast. YUMMY! I might have eggs later today or maybe not. I'll probably have a shake for lunch & DH will want meat for dinner so I'll have some of that. As Kimmer says - Don't over think this plan. It is not necessary.

Week 1 Stats

END OF WEEK 1: 190.5 lbs
START WEIGHT: 205 lbs
WEIGHT LOST: 14.5 lbs!!!!

Egg Muffins & Chicken Fingers

Another pound gone today. 191.5 lbs. That's 13.5 lbs lost in 6 days! Today is day #7.

I experimented with the egg muffins today (curlygirl Amy's recipe). My son (10) ate two for dinner - he loves them! All I used was eggs (real ones not EggBeaters 'cos they taste funny to me, and I discovered why, they have onion powder in them!) and a little fresh grated parmesan cheese plus S&P. I have a muffin top pan so I poured some egg n cheese mix in there too, and added a few bits of diced tomatoes. I nibbled one muffin top after they came out of the oven. Talk about yummy, and very easy to make.

I also did some chicken fingers with Paul Prudhommes Magic Season Blends - I used the Chicken one. Boy were they spicy!!! I ate two strips. Then I was full.

I cannot find davinci at local Publix, Kroger, or Target and what walMart has is limited to Vanilla, Caramel & Kahlua (which was fun at first BUT now boring!) So I ordered from davinci.com. I got Irish Cream (I think from memory) plus Peach. Cannot wait until they arrive.

Today is officially the end of my first week. I was down at total of 13.5 lbs for the week this morning!!!!! I cannot wait to weigh myself tomorrow.

May God Bless You

God Said NO!

I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped/sick child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE myself and others, as much as He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

THIS DAY IS YOURS DON'T THROW IT AWAY ...IT'S YOUR CHOICE.

May God Bless You

Got Though A Very Stressful Day

Down another 2.5 lbs this morning! Yay me! (now 192.5 lbs) I can really see myself getting to my goal of 185 by June 25. So now I've lost 12.5 lbs in 6 days. Very stressful morning, but wasn't able to eat where I was anyway - so not a problem. Ate a few mouthfuls of meat for dinner, and was "full". I love feeling this much in control.

Thoughts Before Bed

Very impressed with how I am coping with Kimkims on a mental level. I received stressful news today, something that I am not going to go into here, but bad enough that I'd usually allow myself to stop by the store and get some chocolate etc etc.... (I'm sure you know that game - I need this stuff because it will help me cope, I deserve it!) Well that hasn't crossed my mind at all. In fact I've felt much more mental clarity, and decided to try to make this negative situation into a positive one. I know that it will give me a chance to shine. This is only day 5, and I feel like a changed person already. I've lost 10 lbs, yes, but that's not even half of it. OK so I feel 10 feet tall and bulletproof. And I haven't even thought about chocolate!

Hope to see 2 more pounds vanish by tomorrow morning. My mini goal is 20 lbs down by 25th, then another 20-30 lbs gone the following month. By the time school starts (Aug 13th here in GA) I want to be down 45-50 lbs. What a way to spend a summer! If I can be 150 by then I'll be in heaven!!!

I start over EVERY SINGLE DAY.. I'm a loser

Did that title get your attention? I hope so! hahahaha

I read a post where someone was really down on themselves for starting over... and starting over ... and starting over. They said that they didn't want to be "one of those people" who is always starting over. It got me thinking about how I have lost over 60 lbs.

I start over every day.

Every day is a NEW opportunity. Every day is another clean slate. Every day! I have NOT been perfect with this way of eating... HEY I HAVEN'T BEEN PERFECT AT LIFE EITHER!! But I'm still living.. and I'm still trying.

I have binged. I have stalled. I have whined. I have pushed. I have cheered. I have cried. I have jumped for joy.

I have had some awesome perfect days. I have had some "squeaky" days. I've had some REBELLIOUS days! hahaha

I AM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT THAT I HAVE STARTED OVER MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT ON BOTH HANDS. That is the key. I REFUSE to give up. I REFUSE to think about what I did yesterday or last weekend. I try very hard to keep looking forward.

AND....

The weaker days are getting fewer and fewer... farther and farther between them. Would you beat your child for not walking perfectly within the first months of learning? Would you use as strong a language with a beginner "reader" as you would for yourself for not doing it perfectly? Would you toss out your child for not brushing their teeth because you have told them at least a dozen times what to do? I THINK NOT! Give yourself a break!!!

If you struggle with "perfection" -- determine to be ONE OF "THOSE" PEOPLE ....... start over every morning. I love a new day!

New day = new chance to get it right.

Burning Calories Spring Cleaning

Who knew that "Cleaning, light (dusting, straightening up, vacuuming, changing linen, carrying out trash), moderate effort" burns 2 calories per minute. Well that's what I was doing this morning, and will be doing this afternoon. Spring cleaning. And I love it. I can do this for 5 hours today and burn 503 calories - way more than I would if I was to push myself to "exercise". Also "Cleaning, heavy or major (e.g. wash car, wash windows, mop, clean garage), vigorous effort" burns 4 calories per minute. I love it!!!

DA DA DA and Another One Bites The Dust!

Tilapia

Well I wound up pan frying my tilapia instead of baking it and the funny thing was I ended up blotting the excess fat from the surface before I ate it. I just used a little butter (probably 2 teaspoons of butter) for the 2 pieces of fish that I cooked at the same time. I love to quickly brown each side, then stick a lid on top of my pan so that the fish steam-cooks. (I love cooking eggs the same way) Anyway the fish was yummy, albeit a little greasy. I really need to put in a little more effort and try cooking it in parchment paper. I cooked an extra piece in the pan (after the first two were out) without adding any more butter. Then I split that piece into two leftover containers for tomorrow.

Whooo hooooo! Another 1/2 lb gone!

How many times each week should I weigh in? I was a little reluctant to do so this morning, but I was also excited & hopeful that I'd see a few more pounds gone. I was a little disappointed to see that it was only 1/2 lb - BUT then I got to thinking that 1/2 lb is better than nothing, and way way better than gaining. And so 196 lb it is.

I love having shakes for lunch especially when I am running around with kids. Today in WalMart I found a small bottle of Da Vinci KAHLUA® Flavored Sugar Free Syrup. I added about 1T syrup to 1 scoop of Jay Robb Egg White Vanilla Shake, about 6 oz water and about 8 large ice cubes. Way better than Starbucks, way cheaper too! Oh and yes... way fewer carbs! YUM!

Happy Happy Happy Joy Joy Joy!!!

I stepped onto the scale this morning expecting to see 200 maybe, but I certainly wasn't expecting to be back in onderland!!!!! 196.5 !!!!!

I am loving this!!!

I am really excited about losing the double digit clothing line. Before kids (and not that I am using them as an excuse here - cos neither of them force fed me!) I wore a 4/6. I still have jeans that size in my closet. My daughter wears an 8/10. I would love to be able to "steal" from her wardrobe!!!

Here are my stats, according to Fitday

Current Weight: Your weight is 196.5 lb as of 06/11/2007
Weight Goal: Your goal is to weigh 105 lb by 12/19/2007
Goal Progress: You are currently 91.5 lb above the target weight.

Are my 20 grams of carbs worth spending on this?

I was very surprised, but ever so delighted that my appetite is fading already - even after only one day. I watched a DVD last night with DH and usually we'd both be nibbling but I think my restraint helped him also. I am now looking at food labels - like I never really did before - and thinking " Are my 20 grams of carbs worth spending on this? "

The Moon Is In Aries

Today the Moon is in Aries which is a time of emergence and a new beginning! It's time to be impulsive and take action by engaging yourself in a NEW project, exercise routine or dietary habit. You can even give something up during a Moon in Aries because it is still new beginning. Anything you begin today has a better chance of success. During a New Moon or a Moon in Aries is the best time to begin something NEW! Even if the day has already begun, just decide from this moment on what you are going to begin NEW! Your new beginning starts at the moment you decide! RIGHT NOW!

Weighing in at 205 lb this feisty 5'1" blonde is entering the ring. Wearing a size 16/18 pair of cropped Athletic Works black pants (with two white stripes running up each side) under which she wears a size 9 (thank God panties do not come in the same size as other clothes!) Her white T Shirt is XL (16/18) and to avoid showing her bulging midriff she wears a black tank top underneath her T Shirt. Bra size is currently 42DD. Borderline insulin resistant, with other symptoms of PCOS this almost 39 year old "petite blonde" longs to be the weight on her drivers licence - 120 lbs - if not less!
